Vicarious trauma: Signs, support and strategies for those working with children

About this professional learning

Working with children and young people who have trauma histories or common mental health disorders can be particularly challenging due to the high level of behavioural, emotional and psychological dysregulation and resultant complications.

Teachers, educators and support teams can have all the best of intentions. However, when exposed to the different challenges faced by children and young people that they engage with on a daily basis, that dedication can often lead to the development of vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue or burnout.

This webinar will focus on helping leaders, teachers, SLSOs, and educators recognise and differentiate between vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue, and burnout. It will also explore ways to create and maintain safe working environments where both individuals and teams understand the importance of prevention through self-care, working more effectively and providing support services that will enable more effective and positive outcomes for colleagues and teams and strengthen your educational organisation.
